Oct. 31st, 2012 04:44 amIt's hard to imagine the scale of devastation that Hurricane Sandy could wreak; I've never lived anywhere that suffers really bad storms, and there's a tendency to intellectualise it if you're not seeing it. I understood it was a bad storm (now there's an understatement) but there's this tendency to feel like we've got Mother Nature licked, modern engineering being what it is.
These pictures put paid to that. The Atlantic has put in some effort to sort the fake NYC Sandy photos from the real ones - the fakes are mostly ridiculous; the real ones are mostly terrifying. This really brings it home for those of us who aren't there.
I have every crossable extremity crossed for those of you in Sandy's path. Good luck to you all, and stay safe. I hope this passes with as little longterm damage as possible.
