Every time I read Television Without Pity recaps, I remind myself that there is nothing more depressing than watching someone rag on something you enjoy, for no apparent reason. And yet I keep going back. Sigh.

Not that I think one should automatically give all media a pass ever; there's plenty of crap out there, and nothing's good all the time. But I really wish that TWoP would engage recappers who at least somewhat like the shows they're recapping; fond snark or honest criticism would be a lot less unpleasant than constant sniping.

I used to love TWoP recaps waaaay back when the X-Files was on, but over the last 5 years or so there seems to be a trend of showing all the flaws of what you recap, and not in a loving way. I like to criticise because I care, and when the criticism is the main point, I stop watching.

Yeah, exactly. Some kinds of criticism are just pointless if you aren't in basic sympathy with the project.

There are a few recappers who tend to enjoy their shows. I'm fond of the recapper who currently does The Vampire Diaries -- and she chose to stop recapping How I Met Your Mother when she stopped liking it, which I appreciated.
