eleanorjaneJust got back from seeing it, finally.
Verdict: Basically awesome, with some quibbles.
I don't really have much to say about it other than what smart people have already said. I like that we got a lot of Tony, not Iron Man. I thought the stuff with Harley (the kid) was well-done, despite the potential to be cringily awful. I loved that everyone else got to do the important stuff (putting down Killian; rescuing the President). I liked that the Mandarin plotline was a lot less racefaily than it could have been.
I didn't like that Pepper was the Damsel In Distress for the vast majority of the movie; she got to do the deed of putting Killian down in the end, but there was still a whole lot more Gotta Rescue Pepper than I would have liked. She basically didn't get to do anything other than flail until she emerged to put Killian down, which was a tiny moment compared with the amount of time she spent being in danger.
(Edit: Also, I thought Tony's PTSD/panic attacks felt pretty painted on. They were in no way debilitating, and didn't really feel like they were having a negative impact on his life. I'm glad we saw some consequences of the Battle of Manhattan, but it felt like lipservice.)
Also, I want more - so so much more - Pepper In The Suit moments. I really liked the nod to Rescue, and I would so totally watch a Rescue-based spinoff movie franchise.
I am really surprised I haven't seen more IM3-inspired fic from all the Avengers fanwriters I follow here and on AO3, though. Why is nobody writing things? o.O
