safe, safer, safest
May. 23rd, 2012 12:27 amSo, the boyfriend and I went to see Safe tonight. It's exactly what you'd expect from a description like "ex-Special Forces dude has to protect a girl from everyone trying to kill her, and also it stars Jason Statham". Fortunately I like the single movie that Jason Statham keeps remaking in front of different scenery and with different accents, so I was happy with it.
On the down side, there's a fridged woman within the first ten minutes and there's a bunch of sketchy ethnic stereotyping. On the up side:
a) it passed the Bechdel Test. Not by much, but it passed.
b) it included two gay characters, whose sexuality was absolutely irrelevant to the movie; they just happened to be explicitly gay as opposed to bromantic or No Homo or, you know, straight dudes.
Even if it didn't have Jason Statham being blisteringly hot and scruffy while beating the fucking daylights out of a lot of people, I would have loved it for that.
