...and that just inevitably reminds me of last year's match (or the year before, I can't remember) when George R R Martin was being a dick about fanfic in support of Diana Gabaldon, while simultaneously writing Suvudu fight match-up stories and textually hypothesising about what would happen when one of his characters encountered, IDK, was it Hermione Granger?

Dude, that right there? That was fanfic. Any attempt to argue otherwise is wilful misunderstanding, or hypocrisy.

That was him - I think he had Jaime Lannister fighting Edward Cullen or something. GRRM is a massive, massive troll, seriously.

And I'm still mourning Lord John Grey - I loved him as a character, and I loved writing fic in his world, but I can't stomach him since Diana Gabaldon shot her mouth off so epically.

It was fanfic that got me into Diana Gabaldon in the first place, for heaven's sake. I bought so many of her books because of fanfic, fanfic made her money. Bah. /bitter.

Finding out GRRM didn't like fanfic honestly made me lose interest in ASOIAF. If I can fan-work his stuff, what's the point of enjoying it to begin with? (I mean, obviously there is a point, but you know what I mean.)
