eleanorjane: Melinda May, looking threatening and irked. (melindamay)

* I am so amused that Ward's srsface "every decision you make from here has consequences" line was over a game of Battleship. :D

* They've changed Skye's makeup this week - she looks very different!

* I like Agent Quan. "Hello... you guys still there?" It would have been easy for him to just be an exposition dump; I do like that the tertiary characters get personality too.

* Scorch? Really? Come on, kidnappers, don't you have a better branding team than that? Being known as "Scorch" would not sell me on consenting to dubious and non-specific experiments.

* As [personal profile] settiai says, this show would have to jump through a lot less hoops if they were just allowed to say the m-word.

* Nice going, Ward, you are the least stealthy espionage "expert" I have ever seen. You may as well have held up a large sign saying "HI MR LYDON, I AM FROM SHIELD AND WE WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO YOU".

* I am really not looking forward to the inevitable storyline about Skye's conflicting loyalties. Blargh. That alone is probably going to kill the show for me where mediocrity has not.

* For somebody from the Rising Tide, who allegedly taught Skye everything she knows, Miles is really way too blase about SHIELD and their capabilities.

* Oh look, here's the inevitable storyline about Skye's conflicting loyalties right here. Hooray. Well, let's hope they don't drag this out. On the one hand, it'd be unrealistic to have it all neatly wrapped up in a bow within 43 minutes. On the other hand, I really just want this over and done with. I hate betrayal storylines so much.

* An interesting approach to the let's-experiment-on-the-mutant scene - Chan is complicit in what they're doing to him; he's not restrained; Raina is walking around in there with no protection and there aren't any visible guards. They're still sketchy as hell, of course, but it's interesting that they're not really being coded as sinister.

* Okay, now they're being coded as sinister. Project Centipede, Mystery Doctor from the pilot episode, the return of the serum. And let's face it, the phrase "now drain him" never bodes well for anyone. It's kind of a shame that the show went here so quickly; it's more interesting to see alternatives to SHIELD, instead of just opposition.

* Coulson's self-doubt about his judgement calls is interesting, although I'm finding it hard to buy that his death was that transformative an experience. I mean, it wouldn't be surprising if it were, but he's not characterised that differently now compared with his movie characterisation - whereas Akela Amador's reaction to him makes it clear that he is quite different now from when she knew him seven years ago.

* Nice guilt trip, Miles. Way to be an asshole.

* Awww, but I liked Quan. :(

* So... Project Centipede are the ones who took away Chan's immunity to his fire, but somehow it's SHIELD's fault? If I were Chan I'd be a loooot more pissed at Raina and Mystery Doctor than at SHIELD, who had hitherto protected Chan from people like Project Centipede.

* Dear Coulson, I thought you were supposed to be competent? Why are you continuing to fire, thus emptying your gun, while your opponent is invulnerable? (The smart Coulson would have said "I'm out" one round before the end of the mag.)

* Interesting. So Raina wasn't a fan of Mystery Doctor either, huh? There was some history there, clearly.

* I liked Coulson's final scene with Skye. It makes her salvageable and forgiveable in a way that an ideological betrayal wouldn't have done.

Although this ep's storyline pushed a couple of my DNW buttons for specific reasons (which wasn't the show's fault), I can tell it's growing on me by my disappointment that there's no new episode next week. :)

Oh god, the neighbour is steel drumming again. Kill me now.
