eleanorjane: Plava Laguna, the ultimate diva! (sing)
Swiped from [personal profile] musesfool, the first of the EOY memes...

Your main fandom of the year?
Probably Star Trek Reboot still; it's where I read the most, certainly, and where I did most vidding (none of which saw the light of day).

Your favorite film watched this year?
Uff, I find it so hard to remember which movies I've seen in which year. Um. Probably Red.

Your favorite book read this year?
Probably my reread of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which I adore.

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Enter Telephone, the Gaga/Metallica mashup from DJs From Mars. It is amazing.

Your favourite TV show of the year?
Best new discovery was probably Human Target; I also really enjoyed Burn Notice and, surprisingly, NCIS: Los Angeles.

Your favourite LJ community of the year?
[livejournal.com profile] where_no_woman over on LiveJournal, dedicated to un-erasing the women of Star Trek Reboot; [community profile] white_lotus for Avatar fanworks here on DW.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I'm not sure, to be honest. I don't think I picked up any new fandoms, per se. I would have said Bones after watching the first 99 episodes in less than a week, but then I stopped watching before the 100th episode because what I heard about it made me so annoyed.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I'm not sure if it qualifies as this year, but I'll say White Collar. I was expecting conman shenanigans and capers, and what I got was a buddy cop/genius wrangler show. Which is fine for what it is, but it's not what I wanted.

Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Tim McGee.

Your TV girlfriend of the year?
OMG KENSI BLYE ♥♥♥

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Um. You know, I'm really not sure. My memory is shocking, and I don't remember anything pushing my buttons in a stand-out-from-the-rest way.

Except Helen Mirren in Red; I think I made ridiculous dolphin noises for pretty much the entire time she was onscreen.

The most missed of your old fandoms?
Harry Potter, I think. I miss the book 3-5 fandom days - back when everyone had a fascinating theory about how the war was going to play out, and the futurefic was amazing.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
I must admit that Hard Core Logo appeals quite a lot, on account of CKR and Hugh Dillon.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Seeing what comes out of the white_lotus exchange and festivids.

And, more importantly, trying to get back to a mental state where I can actually make something I don't hate. I have an awesome, awesome idea for a Burn Notice vid, at least. So that's something!

2010 Recs

So I figured I'd put together a list of my favourite stories from 2010 (though some may be a little older).

Killing Elvis by hradzka - Aliens fandom, OFCs and OMCs. A hilarious epistolary fic and one of the breakout hits of Yuletide 2009.

Almost No One Makes It Out by [personal profile] atrata, a brilliant and incisive Iron Man AU, casting Tony as himself - but without the class and wealth privilege.

水火 by [personal profile] trascendenza, an Avatar: the Last Airbender story. It's an amazing look at Azula post-series, coming back to herself and finding a new way to live.

The One Where The Fire Nation Clearly Loses, another Avatar fic by Miarr. Hot, funny Sokka/Zuko porn with spot-on voices. (I just reread it and oh, SOKKA.) Normally I am not one for stories that are pure porn, but this one's hilarious because it's porn.

Enigmatic Absurdities by Eponine, a House/Angel crossover where House winds up trying to diagnose what's wrong with Angel. It's four years old but I only stumbled across it this year so it might be new to some of y'all too.

Nerds of the Earth, take note! by [profile] brown_betty, an Iron Man/Leverage crossover where Hardison gets coerced into doing a job for SHIELD.

Agent Afloat Atlantis by Mhalachai, a SGA/NCIS crossover AU set at the end of season 5 NCIS and mid-S5 SGA. When Vance breaks up Gibbs' team after Jenny's death, Ziva is sent to Atlantis as NCIS's Agent Afloat.

A Partial Map Of Your TARDIS (Subject To Change) by alibi_factory. Doctor Who fandom, 11th Doctor-ish but not really spoilery. I've recced this before but it's so good I have to rec it again. It's a beautiful, whimsical set of maps to the TARDIS, complete with follies and indulgences and it just makes me flap my hands around incoherently.

War Games by [personal profile] seperis, a hundred thousand words of Star Trek Reboot plotty awesomeness. It's Kirk/Spock with fantastic original characters and an engrossing storyline.

My Home and Native Land by Copperbadge. A SGA story in which Ronon is looking for a tribe to call his own, and finds one in an unlikely place. I love this story for Ronon's characterisation.

Working Around The Crazy by Peroxidepest. A Burn Notice/Supernatural crossover (spoilers for S3 Burn Notice and S5 Supernatural) where Lucifer's looking for a new host and has settled on Michael Westen - but Michael has other ideas, and the sang-froid to test Lucifer's patience.

Concession by [personal profile] obsession_inc, a brilliantly creepy story about Christine Everhart writing an investigative piece about the disappearance of Pepper Potts and Tony Stark. This is the kind of story that really sticks with you later.

Five Universes by quigonejinn. A brilliant Iron Man five things fic that, unusually for the format, makes some really incisive comments about the characters.

...okay, it's four am and I have to get to bed at a semi-sane hour. So, more later, I hope.
