Burn Notice 5.03
I am sick like a sick sick thing. It's either a horrible cold or a mild flu and either way I'm absolutely wrecked. *deathrattle*
So, how about some TV to ease the pain...
* It's nice to see the Westen family dynamic hasn't changed that much. They might be a lot happier with each other these days, but there's still friction and snark.
* I am glad that Nate is being a responsible adult at last. I have always had a huge soft spot for Nate, and always wished there was more of him in the show. I hope his return to Miami heralds more guest appearances.
* I really like the way they're handling Michael's hypervigilance and tension - I am not qualified to judge, but it looks like PTSD? At least bearing in mind what I learnt from
rachelmanija's excellent series of educational posts on the subject a couple of years ago. It makes perfect sense for Michael to have the same symptoms, whether clinically or as a short-term "wind-down" thing, and it's really interesting that they're introducing this now.
* "Listen, bro, I know you're going through some stuff... but half of you is better than all of most people." Awww, Nate. ♥
* "You guys know I'm broke, right? I can't afford to pay you anything - unless you accept free yogurt." "...Deal." AHAHAHAHAHA. Lady, you happened on the right ex-super-spy to help you.
* Now I want a frozen yogurt.
* That is a truly horrible shirt, Michael. Ahaha Fi - "Hoping to scare off that loan shark with your shirt?" (Also, Fi is looking awesome. Why are chokers so flattering to the looks?)
* Fi is so tickled by this domesticity thing, isn't she? :)
* "Hand over the boat, yogurt lady!" I really love Michael's operational personas. (And I think the show is in its element in scenes like this.)
* And brotherly teasing! Have they ever actually teased each other before? Awesome.
* Oh Michael, don't lie to Fi - it won't end well. Really.
* HOLY SHIT AWESOME. *flail*
* I love the fact that for once they have some interactions with law enforcement that aren't bad. I understand that law enforcement would mostly hate Michael Westen and his little operation, but I do like that the FBI unbends a bit. (Also, Michael being unburned would have to help.)
* I like the parallels they're drawing between unhealthy obsessions & addictions, although it's a bit more complex than that as Michael's obsession is arguably justified. But I do think they're doing a good job of showing that Michael is not in control at the moment the way he has been in the past.
Interesting stuff. I like the direction that the show is going in, I think, but it's still taking some adjustment. Still, from the teaser it looks like stuff changes next week, so... we shall see.
